i only need a few images, can you do that?

If you’re wanting a wide variety of gorgeous images that capture all of the different aspects of your pet’s personality then you’ve come to the right place!  There’s an extensive amount of time and effort that my clients and I invest into each session and honestly, it’s a lot of work and effort for someone to end up with just a few images.  If you are truly only looking for a few images then Im likely not the right photographer for you. I would recommend looking for a photographer who offers mini sessions.

WHAT IS A PET PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION LIKE?

Pet photography sessions are casual and easy-going for everyone – your pets will most likely feel like rockstars from all of the love and attention. Every session is tailored to your pet’s personality, energy level, and each client’s personal vision – no two sessions are ever the same. I’ll snap shots along the way of everything – moments of excitement, happiness, action, and silliness, to more quiet and sentimental moments filled with hugs and kisses. It’s all about capturing the love.

I wholeheartedly believe that real smiles don’t originate by saying “cheese,” rather they happen during the types of moments that you want to bottle up forever – those are the moments I want to capture! 

After the session, you’ll receive a timeless collection of heartwarming images in a private gallery that might overwhelm you with happy tears, laughter, and a “bursting from your heart type of joy like a little kid on Christmas” - which is how one of my many cherished repeat clients described the feeling!

WHAT IF MY PET ISN’T WELL TRAINED?

Training can be helpful but it is in no way required to capture gorgeous images.  The majority of the dogs that I work with are not well trained.  Your dog might not respond to every command the first time, the first ten times – or ever – but you have to trust me on this, it’s fine! In fact, it is completely normal!  I promise!  Whether your pet is a perfect angel, a mischievous diva or a total goofball - it's those types of unique personality traits that I'm most interested in.  The best way to let your pet’s spirit and unique character shine through is to let them relax and be themselves without any pressure from you or me.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT’S RAINING OR CLOUDY ON MY SESSION DATE?

Rain and extreme weather conditions are a natural part of the unpredictability of outdoor photography in the DC region. Contrary to conventional wisdom, partially cloudy skies can be just as great as bright sunny days for photography. If it is scheduled to rain or be fully overcast on your session date then we can either play it by ear or reschedule depending on what the forecast looks like.

DO YOU HAVE A FENCED AREA WHERE MY DOG CAN BE OFF-LEASH?

I don't have a fenced area but I'm pretty sure you'll want to read the next question below!

CAN YOU EDIT OUT LEASHES/ COLLARS/ HARNESSES?

Most people are surprised to find out that 75% of the dogs that I photograph are actually on a leash throughout their entire session (you just can't tell because the leashes have been edited out in post-production).  Leash removal is a complimentary service I offer for any ordered images because your pet’s safety and wellbeing are always my number one concern.  I'll bring an extra-long durable leash that helps to simulate being off-leash too.  Please note that I’m unable to remove collars and/or harnesses from any images.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO BOOK A PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION?

Autumn and spring are my busiest times of year for good reason, they are the most gorgeous times of year with the most comfortable temperatures. If you’re thinking about scheduling a session, be sure to sign up for my newsletter below to be notified when my seasonal calendar opens up.

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH FAMILY PORTRAITS WITH PETS?

The short answer is yes, I do!  The long answer is that I strive to capture the bond and those quiet, intimate moments between pets and the absolute closest people in their lives with whom they share the deepest relationship.  I've found that the more people that are involved, the less intimate the images tend to become.

CAN I PURCHASE A GIFT CERTIFICATE?

Unfortunately, gift certificates are not available for purchase at this time.

ARE ANY PRODUCTS INCLUDED IN THE SESSION FEE?

There are no prints, products, or Digital Negatives included in the session fee.

DO YOU SELL DIGITAL NEGATIVES?

I sure do!  Digital Negatives are for personal, at-home use only, and any type of professional/ business/ commercial use is prohibited. Copyright remains solely with Photography by Sara Riddle.

WHAT THE HECK ARE DIGITAL NEGATIVES ANYWAY?

A Digital Negative is a large image file that my camera records onto a memory card that is then uploaded to my computer and professionally edited.

WHAT TIME OF DAY WOULD MY SESSION BE?

Pet photography sessions take place in the late afternoon several hours before the sun sets because it’s the best and most flattering light of the day.

DO YOU SHOOT STUDIO WORK AGAINST BACKDROPS WITH LIGHTS?

All of my work is shot outdoors using all-natural sunlight.

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH HORSES TOO?

Absolutely!  I grew up on a horse ranch and have always loved them! Horse sessions take place at the location of your choice.
